Welcome to the sacred world of Sopana Sangeetham, the soulful ritual music that has echoed through the temple corridors of Kerala for centuries.
Literally translating to "music of the steps," this classical art form is traditionally sung at the holy steps (sopanam) leading to the temple sanctum sanctorum. Characterized by its deep emotional centering, steady rhythmic structure, and the signature accompaniment of the "Edakka" drum, Sopana Sangeetham is more than just music. It is a meditative journey of pure devotion.
Whether you are a lifelong rasika (connoisseur) or discovering these divine melodies for the first time, this space is dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and exploring the rich heritage, unique ragas, and timeless hymns of the Sopanam tradition.
This platform is an attempt to consolidate the widely dispersed resources of Sopana Sangeetham so that it can become a one-stop resource for those interested in Sopana Sangeetham.

In creating this website, I would first like to acknowledge the blessings, guidance, and inspiration of my Guru, Shri Balakrishnan Madakkappillil, whose teachings have been the foundation of my journey into Sopana Sangeetham, a journey upon which I have only recently embarked.
As I am not very proficient in the Malayalam language, the assistance and encouragement provided by my fellow Sopana classmates have been invaluable. I am especially grateful to Ajith Warrier and Achyuth Ajith for their generous help with lyrics, malayalam language, content verification, and locating audio files for many of the songs featured here.
A special word of thanks is due to Shri Biju K. Marar of the Thrikkakara Vamanamoorthy Temple for initiating me into the world of Edakka. I would also like to extend a big thank you to my friends, Ravikumar Jayadevan and Anoop Thrikkakara, for their unwavering support, encouragement, and assistance throughout the development of this website. Their valuable insights and suggestions have contributed greatly to this ongoing effort. My sincere thanks also to all the members of the Edakka and Sopanam classes of the Shree Poornathaeesa Kshetra Kala Peedam for their support.
This website is a modest, ongoing attempt to learn, preserve, consolidate and share the beauty of Sopana Sangeetham. It would not have been possible without the guidance, friendship, and goodwill of the people mentioned above. To all of them, I offer my sincere gratitude.
