Meaning
|
Summary : The hymn addresses two major manifestations of the Bhagavathi, mainly Goddess Karthyayani Addressed in the Pallavi ("Karthyayani janani"). She is a fierce yet fiercely protective, maternal form of Durga/Bhadrakali.
Goddess Mookambika / Saraswathi: Addressed in the first Charanam ("Saaramayulla saraswathi... mookambika amme"). She represents the ultimate essence of wisdom, arts, and intellect.
Pallavi : The devotee calls out to the Supreme Mother, invoking her name as Katyayani (a powerful, compassionate form of Durga). The main plea of the song is established here: a humble request for the Mother to step in and clear away all the suffering and distress from the devotee's life.
Anupallavi : The singer praises the Mother as Aarti-hare (the one who steals away pain) and notes her ultimate power to fulfill all sincere prayers. She is described as being tightly bound to Lord Shiva's divine energy, permeating the entire universe (Jaganmayi).
Charanam 1 : The devotee gets specific about their struggles, asking for relief from heavy burdens or debts (hrinam/rinam). They address the Mother as Goddess Saraswati—the goddess of knowledge, speech, and wisdom—specifically invoking her form as Mookambika Devi (the famous deity of Kollur), praying for her joyful presence to illuminate their heart.
Charanam 2 : The song concludes with complete surrender (Sharanagati). The devotee states that they have made the Mother's feet their only shelter in this world. They are completely happy (muda) to spend their life serving her faithfully as her humble attendants or servants (kinkaranmar).
Line-by-line meaning of the song will be added in due course.
