Summary : This devotional composition is dedicated to Lord Shiva worshipped in His fierce yet benevolent aspect as Aghoramurthy presiding over the ancient Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple on the banks of the holy temple pond, Chapathirtham. The hymn celebrates His iconic cosmic adornments—the river Ganga, the crescent moon, sacred ash, thumba blossoms, bone ornaments, serpents, the battle-axe, deer, and damaru—while venerating Him as the consort of doe-eyed Parvati and father to Ganesha and Murugan. Revered by the holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Indra as the vanquisher of death and sins, the verses form an earnest plea for the Lord to make the devotee's suffering mind His abode and liberate the soul from all worldly bondages.
Shlokam : Consecrated in brilliant, fierce, and transcendental radiance, I perpetually adore and meditate upon the smiling, resplendent sovereign Lord who presides over the sacred abode.
Pallavi : O Lord Shambho, adorned with the celestial river (Ganga), the crescent sliver of the moon, holy ash (bhasma), white thumba flowers, and sacred bone ornaments, may I reach and unite eternally at Your holy lotus feet.
Anupallavi : O Lord and protector of the six-faced Lord Shanmukha (Murugan), bearer of the charming crescent moon, please make my agonizing and burning mind Your own divine abode and dwelling temple.
Charanam-1 : O Aghoramurthy who reigns eternally at Ettumanoor, destroyer of dense clusters of sins and vanquisher of Yama (the god of death), please protect and deliver me forever.
Charanam-2 : O loving father of the elephant-faced Lord Ganesha and eternal protector of those dear to You, please do not delay any longer, my Lord, in liberating me from the bondage of worldly ties.
Charanam-3 : O supreme Lord, who seats the doe-eyed Goddess Parvati upon Your left side, radiating divine splendor while wielding the deer, the battle-axe, and the vibrant percussion drum (damaru) in Your sacred hands.
Charanam-4 : O supreme ruler adorned with serpents, presiding on the banks of the sacred Chapathirtham, who is reverently worshipped by Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Indra (Surendra), salutations unto You.
