Meaning
Summary :       This is a prayer of absolute devotion addressed to Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of wisdom, arts, and learning.
The devotee surrenders completely to the Mother, describing her as the guiding light that illuminates the human heart. To acquire rare, sublime knowledge, the devotee seeks the continuous blessings of her holy feet. The hymn vividly paints the iconographic beauty of the Goddess: her face outshining the full moon, her smile that cures all worldly grief, her left hand holding the sacred scriptures, and her delicate fingers weaving melodies on the Veena. Adorned in glowing golden ornaments and auspicious sandalwood on her forehead, her flawless form is so mesmerizing that the devotee prays to have this divine sight as their very first vision (Kani) upon waking up every single day.

(Dānaśīlē śhona-ratnādhare)
O generous Mother, whose lips shine like red jewels!
(Padmāsana-sthitē ati-lōla-nētrē)
O Lotus-seated Goddess, whose eyes are charming and full of grace!
(Karunāśhīlē bhukti-mukti-pradē ... Dēvi ...)
O Compassionate Mother, who grants both worldly prosperity and spiritual liberation!
(Nitya-mangala-dāyi namōstutē)
O Eternal Bestower of auspiciousness and blessings, I bow before You!

(Adiyanu nī abhayam... ammē)
O Mother, You are the refuge and protection of this humble devotee.
(Akattalir nira-deepam)
Be the radiant lamp that illumines my inner heart.
(Asulabhamākum arivu nirakkān)
To fill my mind with rare and precious knowledge,
I need the guidance and support of your feet (from head to toe).

(Venmati tōlkkum śrī-mukhavum)
Your divine face, which outshines even the bright, radiant white moon,
(Vēdam irikkum idam kaiyum)
Your left hand, in which the sacred Vedas reside,
(Vēdana thīrkkum puñchiriyum)
Your gentle smile that sweeps away all sorrows and pains,
(Vīnayil utirum viralukalum)
And your fingers, gently moving to pluck music from the Veena...

(Tiruvābharana pon-prabhayum)
The golden brilliance emanating from your sacred ornaments,
(Tirunettiyilē chandanavum)
The holy sandalwood paste adorned upon your divine forehead,
(Thikavāyi theliyum nin rūpam)
Your flawless, perfectly manifested form shining bright,
(Kaniyāy ennum thozhutu unarān)
May I always awaken looking at this divine vision as my first sight (Kani) every morning.
