Summary : This devotional hymn is an affectionate adoration dedicated to Lord Krishna (invoked as Unni, Nandanandana, Mukunda, Murari, Jagadeesha, and Karmukil Varnan) celebrating His multifaceted divine persona and cosmic plays. The composition chronologically recounts His life journey—from His birth in Ambadi and upbringing in Vrindavan, mischievous toddler days stealing butter and reaching for the moon, to revealing the cosmic universe inside His mouth to Mother Yashoda. It highlights His legendary feats of valor, such as vanquishing the demoness Putana and other demons, uplifting Mount Govardhana for seven days, liberating the serpent Kaliya in the Kalindi River, dancing the celestial Raas Leela with the gopis on moonlit nights, and slaying the tyrant Kamsa to liberate His parents. Concluding in a prayer of total surrender (sharanagati), the hymn extols Krishna as the endless ocean of perpetual bliss, fortune, and salvation.
Charanam-1 : Born in holy Ambadi and reared in sacred Vrindavan, O lotus-eyed darling infant child Krishna, I bow down in adoration before Your sacred lotus feet!
Charanam-2 : Reared as the beloved child of Yashoda (the joyful and radiant consort of King Nanda), O darling son of Nanda, O divine prince of the cowherd clan!
Charanam-3 : Following the slaying of the demoness Putana, You vanquished numerous other wicked demons to safeguard and deliver the righteous; O supreme Lord of the universe, I fold my hands in perpetual reverence before You!
Charanam-4 : While seated fondly upon Your father's hip playing playful baby steps, gazing up into the azure expanse of the blue sky, You tenderly called out to the moon as "Ambili Ammava"!
Charanam-5 : To demonstrate to Your mother that You had not eaten mud, You stood wide-mouthed; revealing all the fourteen cosmic worlds within, You bestowed ultimate liberation upon Mother Yashoda, O my Lord Krishna!
Charanam-6 : Wandering joyously alongside Your childhood cowherd friends, going in and out of every village home to steal fresh milk and churning butter, O sweet divine child, You alone are my eternal shelter and refuge, O Lord!
Charanam-7 : Crowning Your tresses with a peacock feather, sounding melodious tunes upon Your divine bamboo flute, and holding a herding stick in hand, You herd and tend the cows, O Krishna!
Charanam-8 : Lifting the Govardhana mountain aloft with Your hand for seven continuous days, You protected the entire realm of Gokula from destruction; O Krishna, You alone are our supreme savior and shield!
Charanam-9 : Stepping into the waters of the sacred Kalindi River, You danced with Your lotus feet atop the hood of the venomous serpent Kaliya and granted him divine liberation, O my beloved Kanna!
Charanam-10 : Gathering alongside the Gopikas on radiant, moonlit nights to dance the celestial Raas, O darling Kanna, You alone are our ultimate refuge and surrender!
Charanam-11 : In order to rescue and liberate Your imprisoned parents, You vanquished and executed Your tyrannical maternal uncle Kamsa!
Charanam-12 : O Nanda, Mukunda, Murari, Nanda Govinda, Narayana! O moon bringing delight to Vrindavan, O boundless ocean of perpetual bliss and fortune! O cloud-complexioned Lord Krishna, darling child of Gokula, O Kanna, ocean of eternal bliss and divine grace!
