Meaning

Summary : This devotional hymn is an earnest plea of surrender dedicated to Lord Shiva (Gowripathi / Shankara) presiding over the ancient Chengannur Sree Mahadeva Temple alongside Goddess Parvati (Gowri). Pleading for relief from grinding poverty, worldly afflictions, and accumulated sins, the devotee surrenders completely, declaring the Lord to be their sole refuge beyond all earthly kin. The hymn asks for prosperity, longevity, intellect, radiance, and fame, while beseeching the vanquisher of death to cast a merciful glance when Yama’s messengers arrive at life's final hour and grant supreme liberation (mukti).

Charanam-2 : There is no one else as a refuge or shelter for this humble servant who was born as a human being in this world; it is not a lie, so please shower Your divine grace upon me; glory to the Lord of Gowri residing at Chengannur!
