Summary : This classical devotional composition is an earnest prayer of surrender dedicated to Lord Shiva (invoked as Shambho, Chandrachooda, Mahadeva, Gangadhara, and Sadashiva). The lyrics extol His iconic divine attributes—the crescent moon, the trident, the damaru drum, the serpent ornaments, and the blue throat bearing the consumed Halahala poison—while celebrating Him as the consort of Goddess Parvati and the destroyer of Kamadeva and death itself. The hymn specifically identifies the Lord residing at the sacred hill abode of Vrishachala (Vrishachala Mandira / Vrishabhachalam, associated with sacred Shaivite hill shrines such as Mount Vrishabha / Vrishachalam). Beseeching deliverance from physical afflictions and worldly suffering, the devotee surrenders wholeheartedly at the feet of the moon-crowned preceptor to attain spiritual refuge and auspicious grace.
Pallavi : O Lord Shambho adorned with the crescent moon upon Your crest (Chandrachooda), dweller of the sacred abode on Mount Vrishachala, bestow Your grace and protection upon me!
Charanam-1 : Salutations to the one whose divine deeds are praised and worshipped by Indra, hosts of celestial gods, and venerable sages; who is devoted to the welfare of Mukunda (Vishnu), revered like a divine preceptor even toward the ignorant and humble; O Lord of enchanting, radiant form, I bow down and surrender at Your sacred feet.
Charanam-2 : O Mahadeva, the conqueror of death and time (Kala), O boundless ocean of compassion and eternal kin of all beings! Bearing the trident, battle-axe, skull-bowl (kapala), and kettle drum (damaru) in Your hands, adorned with serpents around Your throat, delightful consort of the mountain king's daughter (Parvati), glory to You, O Lord Hara who consumed the deadly Halahala poison!
Charanam-3 : O vanquisher of Kamadeva (Angajaari) endowed with auspicious renown, whose divine form is eternally embraced by Sarvamangala (Parvati); remover of physical afflictions and worldly torment, bearer of vast and towering matted locks adorned with the holy Ganga; dispeller of demonic distress and granter of eternal well-being, O Gangadhara, be my supreme guiding preceptor.
Charanam-4 : I revere Lord Sadashiva, whose eyes are the sun and the moon, O Vamadeva of auspicious and immaculate form; the granter of all desires and supreme dispeller of worldly sorrows who uplifts the destitute upon this earth; O auspicious source of bliss and sacred chants, I offer my surrender unto You.
