Summary : This devotional hymn is dedicated to Sri Nagaraja (the Serpent King) in his various exalted cosmic manifestations, including Adisesha, Takshaka, and Karkotaka. The song celebrates the serpent deity as the revered ornament adorning the neck of Lord Shiva (Chandrashekhara) and the cosmic couch upon which Lord Vishnu reclines in the milk ocean. Highlighting legendary deeds such as dispelling the torment of Kali from King Nala, the verses implore the Lord's luminous jewel to eradicate the inner darkness of ignorance and karmic impurities. The prayer culminates in an earnest supplication for the removal of all afflictions of the Kali Yuga and the attainment of ultimate liberation (mukthi). No specific earthly temple is mentioned in the lyrics of the hymn.
Shlokam : O sovereign Lord of serpents (Pannaga Vibho), beholding whose divine and auspicious form bestows supreme spiritual liberation (saayujyam) upon all seekers! To those who take sole refuge in You and dwell constantly immersed in the singing and chanting of Your holy names, please sever the deep-seated bondages of illusion (maya) and grant ultimate liberation (mukthi), O revered King of Serpents, Sri Nagaraja!
Pallavi : O Lord of exquisite beauty who adorns the radiant neck of Lord Shiva (Chandrashekhara), O supreme Soul revered and worshipped across the entire universe!
Anupallavi : By the enchanting and luminous luster of the wondrous gem (nagamanikya) glowing atop Your miraculous hoods, please shower Your divine grace to dispel and eradicate the darkness of impurities and ignorance clouding my inner heart.
Charanam-1 : O sovereign serpent who serves majestically as the celestial serpent-bed (Ananta/Adisesha) for the lotus-navelled Lord Padmanabha reclining in the milk ocean (Ksheerasagara), protect me; O exalted Lord Takshaka who dwelled within the fruit to uphold cosmic truth and righteousness, I bow before You in perpetual reverence.
Charanam-2 : O mighty Lord Karkotaka, who through Your potent bite destroyed the malignant hold of Kali that tormented King Nala (the monarch of the Nishadhas); please dispel all the dreadful tribulations and afflictions of this fierce Kali Yuga from afar, and grant us supreme liberation, O Lord!
