Summary : This devotional hymn is dedicated to Lord Ganesha (Vinaayaka / Vighneshwara / Gajamukha) presiding at the sacred Pamba Ganapathi Temple (situated on the banks of the holy Pamba River at the foothills of Sabarimala). The composition portrays Lord Ganesha as the divine scribe of the Vedas and the beloved son of Shiva and Parvati, who removes all impediments for Sabarimala pilgrims embarking on their trek. It vividly details essential pilgrimage rituals including the sacred bath in the river Pamba, carrying the Irumudikkettu with the Neythenga, and breaking coconuts alongside lighting camphor and ghee lamps. The verses form an earnest plea for spiritual endurance, divine protection, and clearance of all obstacles to safely reach the hill summit to worship Lord Ayyappa.
Pallavi : Born upon this earth as the darling infant child of the supreme God of gods (Lord Shiva) and Goddess Parvati, You incarnated as an illuminating divine brilliance showing the path of righteousness to the world.
Anupallavi : We worship You daily, O Lord Vinayaka, destroyer of all obstacles; O handsome elephant-faced Lord residing at Pamba, protect and safeguard me.
Charanam-1 : When devotees bathe in the sacred holy river Pamba and arrive at the shrine filled with pure devotion, You manifest first amidst the sweet and resonant chants of "Swamiye Saranam"; holding Your auspicious trunk in joy and awakening spiritual ecstasy in our hearts as we ascend the holy hill, O handsome elephant-faced Lord residing at Pamba, protect and safeguard me.
Charanam-2 : Carrying upon their heads the sacred twin-compartment bundle (Irumudi) containing the ghee-filled coconut (Neythenga) representing the essence of divine grace, please bestow immense inner strength and divine aid to the arriving pilgrim; O radiant Vighneshwara who scribed the profound wisdom of the supreme Vedas, O handsome elephant-faced Lord residing at Pamba, protect and safeguard me.
Charanam-3 : Breaking the consecrated coconut held in hand amidst the reverent cries of Saranam, and lighting the sacred ghee lamp and camphor to dispel every looming obstacle; O ocean of compassion, protect and guide us so that we may ascend the hill summit and worship Lord Ayyappa, O handsome elephant-faced Lord residing at Pamba, protect and safeguard me.
