Summary : This grand devotional hymn is dedicated to Goddess Durga (manifested and invoked as Mahishasuramardini, Mahamaya, and Annapurneshwari) presiding over the historic Thiruvalathoor (Thiruvalathoor Sree Randumoorthi Temple). The verses extol the Mother as the dispeller of all tribulations, fear, and accumulated sins, celebrating her cosmic victories such as the slaying of the demon Mahishasura while riding her lion mount. The hymn seamlessly weaves together the broader Vaishnavite, Shaivite, and Shakta traditions of Kerala by invoking the deities of Guruvayur, Ambalappuzha, and Sabarimala alongside Ganesha, Murugan, and Shiva. The composition culminates in a universal prayer of total surrender, seeking maternal protection during the final journey of life and showering auspicious benedictions upon all devotees who sing or hear this praise.
Pallavi : O Durga, dispeller of all miseries and suffering, O Mother who drives away all fear, O supreme embodiment of compassion, I bow down in reverent prostration at Your holy feet.
Anupallavi : O Mother Ambika, embodiment of divine illusion (Maya), who resides in this world at the sacred abode of Thiruvalathoor, O protectress of the earth, Your divine grace alone is my sole support and refuge.
Charanam-1 : Remove the eight worldly passions and passions/attachments from within me and bestow spiritual nourishment and strength; O Mother Durga, destroyer of evil and protectress of the righteous, O Girija dwelling atop the sacred mountains, consort of Shankara, grant at least once the grace of elephant-faced Ganesha to be kind to me.
Charanam-2 : To chant Your sacred names, to constantly worship and meditate upon Your lotus feet, and to pacify and dissolve all my sins, I prostrate before You with my entire body (sashtanga namaskaram); when Yama (the god of death) approaches at the final hour, stand by me as my kin on this earth, O beloved consort of Lord Shiva (the conqueror of death), I bow to You perpetually.
Charanam-3 : O Mother presiding over Thiruvalathoor, who stands as an overflowing pot (nirakuda) of pure auspiciousness and divine prosperity, salutations unto You; may Your lotus feet remain my eternal refuge, O Annapurneshwari and Mahamaya who dwells in Thiruvalathoor, salutations and reverent surrender unto You.
Charanam-4 : Riding high and exalted, O slayer of Mahishasura, creator/cause of the delight of the deities, lotus-eyed protector of all beings, and granter of boons! O Mother, Mother, Mother, Sovereign ruler of the cosmos, the singular primordial Mother, the primordial cause of the Omkara resonance, daughter of the mountain King, fierce Bhairavi, the primary cause, O bountiful Mother Annapurna!
Charanam-5 : She who runs to halt and calm the wavering mind, She who mounts atop the lion and lets out a roaring laugh of victory, She who pervades and sustains this planetary realm, She who severed the head of the great demon Mahishasura; the sacred feet of my Mother that guard and protect the realms, the holy feet of my Mother that dispel every sorrow, O my Ambika dwelling gracefully in Thiruvalathoor.
Charanam-6 : Beloved sister of Lord Madhava (Vishnu), exceedingly enchanting, Shankari praised in Madhyamavati, the auspicious consort of Mahadeva who bestows vitality and health, delighting the minds of the pure-hearted, eternal mother of Lord Guruguha (Subrahmanya), embodiment of blissful joy, immaculate Niranjana, sovereign empress Bhuvaneshwari, vanquisher of afflictions, illuminating the cosmic expanse, delighting in sweet speech, essence of Vedic scriptures, radiating as the composite radiance of Brahma (Vidhi), Vishnu (Hari), and Shiva (Hara).
Charanam-7 : O granter of all auspiciousness, may all auspiciousness be unto You, Mother of the universe! Bestow upon me pure auspiciousness; glory to all auspiciousness, O Mother of the cosmos, auspicious blessings to Bhuvaneshwari, eternal auspiciousness to the supreme guardian deity! Surrender unto the Mother who holds the signs of granting boons (varada) and fearlessness (abhaya); surrender unto Her who flourishes in Vallabhanoor; salutations unto Lord Hari Narayana, refuge; Hara Hara Shiva Shiva, refuge, absolute refuge.
Mangalam : Auspicious blessings unto Uma and Maheshwara; auspicious blessings unto the Lord of Bhuloka Vaikuntha residing at Guruvayur (Gurupavanapura); O Bhagavan residing at Ambalappuzha as the Lord of Dakshina Dwaraka, auspicious blessings as we meditate upon You with boundless devotion; auspicious blessings unto the Lord of Siddhi and Buddhi (Lord Ganesha) and to the commander of the celestial armies, consort of Valli and Devasena (Lord Murugan); auspicious blessings unto the boon-giver of the Kali age, the Lord of Sabarimala (Lord Ayyappa); auspicious blessings unto Goddess Parameshwari, slayer of Mahishasura, and Mother Annapurneshwari who resides in the renowned Thiruvalathoor shrine—may divine blessings be showered upon all those who remember Her with loving devotion, think of Her daily, praise Her continuously, and listen to this hymn with devout reverence.
