Meaning
Summary :    This devotional hymn is dedicated to Lord Krishna (Guruvayoorappan) presiding over the renowned Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple in Kerala. Arriving with the devotional beats of the sacred Idakka drum echoing in the chest, the devotee surrenders completely at the Lord's feet, pleading for spiritual light to dispel inner ignorance and anguish. Drawing a poignant parallel to Kuchela offering a handful of beaten rice, the singer lays bare all worldly sorrows before the deity, praying for comfort like a parched blossom in a desert. The hymn culminates in an earnest prayer for the Lord to take the reins of life's chariot guided by the lamp of divine wisdom, offering melting devotion and the lotus of the heart at the feet of Mukunda.

Shlokam : To lead this humble servant—who wanders aimlessly on this earth acting wildly—onto the righteous path, to awaken daily with the vision of Your youthful form in my eyes to fold hands in prayer, and to grant ultimate liberation by pouring the nectar-like melody of Your divine flute into my ears, O cloud-complexioned Lord, shower Your compassionate glance perpetually; why this delay?

Pallavi : To bow before and worship the supreme Lord residing in the holy town of Guruvayoor, I come with the rhythmic strokes and beat of the sacred Idakka drum echoing deep within my chest.

Anupallavi : I bow low at Your sacred lotus feet so that You may caress me with Your divine boons; O supreme Guru, please shower illuminating light upon my life's pathways. (Chanting the holy Mahamantra: Hare Rama Hare Krishna).

Charanam-1 : I am severely tormented by the deep darkness that has filled the pathways of my mind for an eternity; will You not come to my aid, O merciful Lord? To extinguish all my anguish and grief, O subtle essence of the cosmos, I shall light a sacred flickering lamp at Your divine sanctum steps, O Mukunda!

Charanam-2 : When I arrive carrying a strung garland woven of all my sorrows, rush swiftly to me, O Lord of all, to grant me eternal peace; in Your holy sanctum, I shall regularly sing sacred Sama chants; shower Your benevolent glances upon me as I arrive to render my humble devotional service.

Charanam-3 : Just like the humble tale of Kuchela offering a handful of beaten rice (avil), I shall sing out the stories of my life before You, O Lord of Guruvayoor; languishing and panting in exhaustion like a delicate blossom stranded in a barren desert, I adore and worship You so that You may hold and tenderly comfort me with Your auspicious grace.

Charanam-4 : Igniting the flame of spiritual wisdom, shower Your benevolent grace to steer and guide the chariot of my mortal life forever onward; within my heart, I offer You the melting butter of pure devotion, and I lay down the lotus of my mind as an offering before You, O compassionate Lord!
