Summary : This devotional hymn is a sincere prayer of surrender and praise addressed to the Supreme Mother Goddess Durga (Bhagavathy), specifically venerated here as the presiding deity of the Kandanarkulangara temple. The song extols Her supreme cosmic stature as Shiva’s consort, Her enchanting grace, Her compassionate lotus eyes, and Her formidable multi-armed divine form bearing protective weapons to vanquish negative forces and demonic afflictions. The devotee appeals to the Mother as their sole refuge, asking for forgiveness for all human shortcomings and misdeeds while seeking deliverance from worldly grief and hardship.
Pallavi: O Supreme Goddess of the universe, O leader and protector of the cosmos, the beloved consort of Lord Shiva who adorns the matted locks.
Anupallavi: O Mother of the universe, enchantress of all creation, O Divine Mother, be my support and protection, and shower your benevolent boons upon me.
Charanam 1: O Goddess with gentle eyes resembling lotus petals born of the waters, conqueror of desires, pure and spotless Durga, unconquerable one whose grace serves as the nectar removing the distress of true devotees, Queen of the silver-peaked Mount Kailash, whose glory is beyond the reach of mere words.
Charanam 2: Holding a sword, a trident, and showing the gestures of granting boons and fearlessness (varada and abhaya mudras), adorned with countless divine weapons, O inner mind and heart, bow down and worship daily at the sacred feet of the Goddess who rides the lion, the slayer of demons.
Charanam 3: To forgive and ward off all the committed transgressions and faults, this humble devotee has no refuge other than the Mother presiding at Kandanarkulangara; I come rushing to your presence, O Mother, who dissolves all my sorrows and web of distress.
