Summary : This devotional hymn is an earnest supplication of surrender (sharanagati) addressed to Lord Karthikeya (Shanmukha / Subrahmanya), venerating Him as the six-faced son of Lord Shiva who dispels worldly affliction and mortal suffering. Drawing upon intimate Puranic lore, the hymn affectionately recalls the Lord's legendary romance with the forest princess Valli, where He assumed the playful guise of an elderly ascetic (kalla-sanyasi) to win her hand. Pleading against the agonizing perils of worldly torment and existential delusion (maya), the devotee implores the lotus-eyed deity for swift deliverance and eternal refuge at His lotus feet. While reflecting the traditional Tamil and Kerala Murugan worship traditions (with references to the silver sacred peak).
Pallavi : O Lord Karthikeya, protect and preserve me forever, eradicating all my afflictions, distress, and worldly anguish!
Anupallavi : Does Your six-faced divine mind (Shanmukha chitham) have no thought of me? What wrong or transgression have I committed, O beloved son of the conqueror of death (Lord Shiva / Andhakanta-soono)?
Charanam-1 : When this decaying mortal body suffers even for an instant in the hellish quagmire of worldly suffering, come without the slightest delay and grant me deliverance! O true divine kin, O lotus-eyed Lord, sever all the entangling bonds of worldly illusion (maya) and unite me at Your sacred holy feet!
Charanam-2 : To court and wed the tender fawn-eyed tribal maiden Valli, You who dwell upon the radiant silver peak took on the playful disguise of an old mendicant ascetic (kalla-sanyasi) in the forest groves!
