Summary : This devotional song is dedicated to Lord Murugan (addressed as Balasubrahmanya, Karthikeya, and Dandayudhapani), venerating Him in His famous form as Palani Aandavar residing at the sacred hill temple of Palani (Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Tamil Nadu). The verses celebrate the young deity as the darling son of Lord Shiva (Kailasanatha) and Goddess Parvati, born in the Saravana lake and accompanied by His divine consort Valli. Clad in ascetic ochre robes (kashaya) and adorned with rudraksha beads, He is hailed as the supreme wielder of the Vel, the brother of elephant-faced Ganesha (Kumbhimukha sodara), and the very embodiment of the golden fruit of spiritual wisdom (Jnana Pazham). The hymn is a prayer of humble surrender, pleading with the radiant, sun-like Lord Guha to bless the devotee with His playful presence and eradicate all inner impurities and sorrows.
Pallavi : O divine Lord, beloved son of the master of Mount Kailash (Lord Shiva)! O young Balasubrahmanya, I bow down and join my hands before You in humble worship.
Anupallavi : O beautiful, adorned spear-bearer (Singaravela) of Mother Parvati! O child born in the sacred Saravana reeds, O Lord Karthikeya! (Son of Kailasanatha, I bow before You...)
Charanam-1 : Will You come mounted upon Your radiant golden peacock and sport with delight? Will You arrive accompanied by Mother Valli to play joyously? O supreme commander of the celestial armies (Devasenadhipa), wielder of the sacred staff (Dandayudhapani), wielder of the divine Shakti-spear, O Velkumara!
Charanam-2 : Wearing ascetic ochre-colored robes, adorned with holy rudraksha garlands, standing serenely with a gentle smile on Your lips, O Velayudha! O Lord of Palani (Palaniyandava), O very essence and core of transcendental spiritual knowledge, You indeed are the golden fruit of supreme wisdom!
Charanam-3 : O brother of the elephant-faced Lord Ganesha (Kumbhimukha), destroyer of all inner sins and blemishes! O Sri Subrahmanya, radiant son of the vanquisher of evil, beautiful young Kumara shining like the brilliant sun! O beloved consort of Valli, O divine Lord Sri Guha!
