Meaning
Summary :        This beautiful Sopanam hymn is a heartfelt prayer to Lord Shiva, the compassionate master of pure consciousness who resides as the deity of Vyaaghrapuram(Vaikom Mahadeva Temple). The singer intensely longs to constantly behold the Lord's divine feet and place them upon their head as a crowning grace for all time. The verses paint a vivid picture of His sacred form, completely smeared in holy ash and adorned with a tiger skin, snakes, bone garlands, and a gleaming battle-axe. With deep devotion, the devotee explicitly begs the Lord to appear before them when the final hour of death approaches, just as He once did to conquer Yama himself. Ultimately, the song serves as a complete surrender to the beloved consort of Goddess Parvati, seeking eternal protection and the destruction of all sins.

Slokam : O Shambho, Lord of the Golden Assembly (Kanaka Sabhai), You are an ocean of the nectar of compassion. I seek refuge at Your radiant lotus feet. O Lord, Consort of Girija (Parvati), protect me completely.

Pallavi : O Lord, grant me the blessing to behold Your divine feet, so that I may keep them placed upon my head as a crowning grace for all time.

Anupallavi : May my eyes remain forever fixed upon You, without parting from Your presence even for a split second (kaani neram), constantly beholding Your divine form.

Charanam 1 : I long to see You clad in the skin of a mighty tiger as Your garment, Your sacred body beautifully and affectionately adorned with Leucas flowers (Thumba), serpents, and bone garlands, completely smeared in holy ash (bhasma).

Charanam 2 : O Lord, when the final hour approaches and Yama (the God of Death) arrives near me wielding his staff, please appear before me—the same Lord who once used the fiery eye that incinerated Kamadeva (the god of love) to conquer and burn down Death itself.

Charanam 3 : Holding the powerful, gleaming battle-axe (venmazhu) in Your virtuous and benevolent hands, You are the destroyer of all sins and the beloved consort of Goddess Parvati. O pure consciousness, Lord of Vyaaghrapuram (Vaikom/Chidambaram), protect me always.
