Meaning
Summary :         This is one of the most famous and soul-stirring Malayalam devotional kritis dedicated to Lord Guruvayoorappan. It was composed by the legendary scholar and poet Irayimman Thampi. Notably, the final verse reveals a deeply personal plea, as the composer prays for relief from his Vatha (rheumatism/paralysis) illness, a tradition reminiscent of Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri's Narayaneeyam.

Pallavi : Why is there such a delay in showering Your mercy upon me, Oh Krishna? I bow down and clasp my hands in absolute surrender at Your twin holy feet.

Anupallavi : Oh Supreme Lord, You who reside in the sacred town of Guruvayoor, gracefully granting the cherished wishes of all who seek Your refuge! You are the ultimate destroyer of all worldly miseries and sins. Why then, oh Lord, do You delay Your compassion for me?

Charanam-1 : Your beautiful, divine feet are gently caressed by the Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi (Thaaril Thanvi). Whether a devotee contemplates those feet from afar at every moment, or serves You directly in close proximity with elaborate rituals—to You, the omnipresent Supreme Soul (Parama Purusha), there is absolutely no difference between the two. You treat all true devotion equally.

Charanam-2 : For humanity caught in the terrifying, vast ocean of material existence (Bhava Sindhu), constantly tossed around by the turbulent waves of accumulated sins and sorrows, the ultimate shelter is Hari, whose complexion is like a radiant emerald (Marathakamani). I have now come to realize this eternal truth through the scriptures and life stories written by the ancient sages.

Charanam-3 : In my heart, I constantly contemplate Your gorgeous form: the beauty of Your thick, lovely hair adorned with a peacock feather tassel (Pincha), Your gentle smile, and Your glances filled with absolute grace. I visualize Your beautiful chest adorned with the Vanamala garland, strings of pearls, and the glowing Kausthuba gem, down to the golden anklets ringing softly on Your holy feet, oh You who outshine the beauty of Kamadeva himself!

Charanam-4 : Oh Sree Padmanabha (Vishnu), residing in the temple of Guruvayoor (Guruvaathapura), You are the supreme protector of the cosmos and the cosmic preceptor to creators like Brahma (Dhaathaavadi). Pleased with my devotion, please do not delay any longer. Look upon me with pity, completely cure my afflictions like rheumatism (Vaathaadirogam), and bless me abundantly with all forms of well-being and spiritual prosperity!
