Summary : This beautiful hymn is dedicated to Lord Kaashi Vishvanatha, the supreme master of Varanasi whose divine form is adorned with the rippling waves of the Ganga and the holy crescent moon. The verses glorify Him as the pure, absolute reality (Nirmala Brahman) and the beloved consort of Parvathy, whose sacred lotus feet are revered by Lord Vishnu himself. He is praised as the compassionate vanquisher of Time and the rider of the white bull, holding a battle-axe and a deer while eternally dwelling upon the silver mountain of Kailash. Ultimately, the song serves as a profound act of devotion, with the seeker begging the Lord to clear away all deceit from their heart and grant them the grace to live in complete alignment with the divine will.
Slokam : Worship Vishvanatha, the Lord of the sacred city of Varanasi, whose matted hair is adorned beautifully by the rippling waves of the River Ganga. His left side is eternally graced and beautified by Goddess Gauri. He is deeply dear to Lord Narayana, the destroyer of the pride of Kamadeva (the god of love), and the supreme master of Varanasi.
Pallavi : O Vishvanatha of Kashi! O Lord of Gauri, Shankara, Shambho! I bow down with folded hands at Your divine feet.
Anupallavi : O vanquisher of Time (Yama), abode of all virtues and ocean of compassion! O destroyer of Kamadeva (he who holds the lotus arrows)! O deity with the third eye upon Your forehead, beloved consort of Parvathy, whose lotus feet are revered and worshipped by Padmanabha (Lord Vishnu).
Charanam 1 : O pure, absolute reality (Nirmala Brahman)! May Your sacred feet reside eternally within my mind, bringing absolute goodness to my life every day. O Lord revered by all animate and inanimate creation, who possesses a pure form and an incomparable treasury of virtues—grant me the grace so that my entire life may pass in alignment with the divine will.
Charanam 2 : O Lord who lovingly adorns Himself with the crescent moon, white Leucas (Thumba) flowers, holy ash, and bone garlands! O fulfiller of desires (Chinthamani Moorthy), bestow Your grace upon this simple mind, and grant me the wisdom to constantly contemplate and chant Your sacred names—Shiva, Shiva, Shankara.
Charanam 3 : O true, indwelling Lord who eternally resides upon the silver mountain (Mount Kailash), protect me. O Shiva, quickly drive away all deceit from my heart and manifest within me with absolute tenderness. O Shambho, who rides upon the white bull, holding a spotted deer and a battle-axe (Parashu) in Your hands!
Charanam 4 : O Lord of the Sun, the Devas, and all cosmic beings! O beautiful Lord of the spirits (Bhoothesha), grant me abundant joy. You reside permanently in Varanasi, dwelling alongside the holy River Ganga to wash away all human miseries. O Shambho, protector of the entire universe!
