Summary : The 23rd Astapathi describes how, with her friends gone, Radha’s shyness melts into passion as she looks upon the bridal bed of fresh leaves. Krishna lovingly entreats her to step forward, declaring his complete devotion and surrender to her beauty. He begs her to embrace him and offer the nectar of her lips to heal the agonizing burns of their long separation. Ultimately, Krishna pleads with his moon-faced beloved to cast away her false anger and unite with him in pure bliss.
Slokam : Once Radha's friends (the sakhees) leave the bower, Radha’s initial shyness begins to melt away, replaced by overwhelming love. Her lips are bathed in a gentle, knowing smile. Seeing his beloved Radha with a passionate heart, her eyes fixed on the bed made of fresh, tender leaves, Lord Krishna (Hari) speaks to her lovingly.
Pallavi : Krishna pleads, "O beautiful, passionate one! Place your lotus-like feet upon this bed of soft, tender leaves. Let this beautiful bed of leaves acknowledge defeat from the sheer softness of your sprout-like feet."
Dhruvapadam : "O Radhika! Do not delay even for a moment. Follow me, Narayana, who is completely devoted to you."
Charanam 1 : Krishna says, "You have walked a very long distance to get here. Let me gently massage your tired feet with my lotus-like hands. Step onto this couch and favor me, just as your anklets faithfully follow every single movement of your feet."
Charanam 2 : "Speak kind and favorable words to me, words that taste like sweet nectar flowing from the moon of your face. Let me untie the silken garment covering your chest, which stands as a barrier to our union, and dispel the agony of our separation."
Charanam 3 : "Place your bosom—thrilled, goosebump-laden, and yearning for the intense embrace of your lover—against my chest. Let this close embrace extinguish the tormenting fire of love burning inside me."
Charanam 4 : "O proud and beautiful lady! Offer me the nectar of your lips and breathe life back into this servant of yours, who is as good as dead. My mind is entirely anchored in you, and my body has been scorched and left joyless by the fire of our separation."
Charanam 5 : "O moon-faced one! Let the sweet jingling of your jeweled waist-bells blend in harmony with the gentle, passionate sounds from your throat. My ears have been driven frantic by the painful calls of the cuckoo birds; heal my long-standing sorrow."
Charanam 6 : "Do not look at me with futile anger anymore. Your shy, downcast eyes look as though they are closing in modesty. Cease this false pride, and let go of any lingering resentment about our separation."
Charanam 7 (Concluding Signature Verse) : This song, composed by Sri Jayadeva, describes the joys and pleasures of Krishna (the enemy of Madhu). May this song generate pure delight, romantic bliss, and deep emotional aesthetic joy (rati rasa) in the hearts of true connoisseurs and devotees.
