Summary : This hymn is a soulful prayer to Lord Rama, the majestic wielder of the Kodanda bow who assumed a human form to destroy Ravana and restore cosmic righteousness. The verses glorify Him as an ocean of compassion and the essence of the Vedas, celebrating His mercy in liberating Ahalya and shattering the distress of the suffering. It beautifully contrasts His nature as both the formless ultimate Truth and the radiant, lotus-eyed consort of Sita who delights the universe. Ultimately, the song serves as a profound act of surrender, seeking protection from the Lord of Kosala to cross the turbulent ocean of worldly existence.
Slokam : I worship Rama, the crown jewel of the royal dynasty, the Lord of the three worlds born to protect the sacrificial rituals. With eyes like lotus petals, He is an ocean of mercy who shatters the distress of the suffering and bestowed absolute grace upon Ahalya. He is the destroyer of the demon king (Ravana), the beloved consort of the daughter of the Earth (Sita), supremely peaceful, the embodiment of righteousness (Dharma), and the ultimate protector of all living beings.
Pallavi : Glory to You, O Lord of the Kosala kingdom! O Rama, who wields the mighty Kodanda bow in Your hand! You are the protector of the righteous and the gentle-hearted, and the beloved consort of Janaki (Sita).
Anupallavi : Glory to the God of Gods, who delights the entire universe! I meditate upon and worship You, who are the boundless treasure-house of divine radiance and light.
Charanam 1 : I contemplate upon the most beautiful being in the world, the noblest among kings, whose lotus eyes and divine feet are worshipped by all. O Lord of Sita, Rama, who shines with supreme majesty! O Master, O Ruler, who is the very essence of the Vedas (Vedanta Saaram), protect me.
Charanam 2 : I worship You, O ocean of compassion, who has assumed a deceptive human form while being the ultimate, ultimate Truth. You are the sacred incarnation who is eternally tranquil, ever-joyful, and who constantly ordains everything for the sake of establishing righteousness (Dharma).
Charanam 3 : I worship the radiant Raghuvara, who helps living beings cross the ocean of worldly existence (Samsaara). He is the soul of truth and righteousness, the fulfiller of all desires, and the source of pure joy. Though He is the formless, ultimate divine, He manifests out of boundless mercy as the beautiful Lord who delights Sita.
