Summary : This hymn is a Namasankirtanam—a traditional Hindu prayer centered on chanting the divine names of God to cultivate inner peace and devotion. Rooted in the Bhakti tradition, it praises Lord Vishnu and His various incarnations (such as Rama, Krishna, and Narasimha) for lifting the world's burdens and destroying worldly pride. Ultimately, it serves as a meditative song of complete surrender, asking for protection, freedom from suffering, and unwavering devotion at the Lord's feet.
Slokam : This opening verse honors Chakrapani (Lord Vishnu, the holder of the discus), the Supreme Ruler of the universe (Akhileshan). It highlights how He took on ten distinct forms (Dasharoopam)—including the Fish (Matsya), Lion-man (Narasimha), Rama, Balabhadra, Krishna, and Kalki—to destroy overbearing pride (Ateeva Garva) and relieve the Earth (Kshoni) of its sorrows and distress.
Charanam 1 : A direct call of devotion to Lord Vishnu under His various names—Krishna, Rama, Mukunda, Madhava, Vasudeva, and the Universal Teacher (Jagat Guru). It invokes His avatars (Matsya/Fish, Kurma/Tortoise, Narasimha/Man-Lion, and Rama) and ends with a humble plea: "Paahimaam" ("Protect me!").
Charanam 2 : Describes the Lord as a treasure house of mercy (Daya Nidhe) who is revered and worshipped by gods (Devas), demons (Daanavas), and great sages led by Narada (Naradaadhi Muneendra). The devotee asks Lord Krishna (the son of Devaki) to grant unwavering, deep devotion (Bhakti) at His divine lotus feet.
Charanam 3 : A chorus of praise dedicated to Lord Ramachandra (Raghavaya, Ramabhadra), repeatedly offering bowings and salutations (Namostute). The concluding lines praise Him as Mukunda and Madhava, referencing His divine acts, such as lifting the Govardhana hill (Nagakara).
Charanam 4 : Addresses Lord Keshava as the destroyer of worldly bondage and suffering (Bhava Bhanjana). It bows to His half-man, half-lion form (Naramruga Shareera / Narasimha) and repeats salutations (Namo Namah) to Lord Narayana in His various supreme aspects (Nara-Narayana, Hari-Narayana, Lakshmi-Narayana).
Charanam 5 : A meditative chant celebrating the victory and glory (Jaya) of Lord Narayana in all His forms—Hari, Nara, Lakshmi Narayana. It concludes with the sacred name of Narayana and the auspicious chanting of Hare Krishna.
