Summary : This devotional song is a reverent hymn addressed to Lord Vishnu in his manifestation as Lord Krishna, worshipped at the historic Ramamangalam Perumthrikkovil Temple in Kerala. The lyrics glorify the Lord's mesmerizing beauty—from his dark, cloud-like complexion and lotus eyes to his yellow garments and peacock feather crown. It recounts his famous mythological feats and avatars, including subduing the serpent Kaaliya, vanquishing the demon Bakaasura, and tearing apart evil in his Narasimha form. The verse celebrates him both as the playful cowherd of Vrindavan and as the ultimate protector who resides in the hearts of great yogis. Ultimately, the song serves as a soulful prayer asking the deity of Ramamangalam to bestow his divine mercy, destroy all sins, and offer shelter to the devotee.
Pallavi : An invocation addressing Lord Madhava (Vishnu/Krishna), who resides in the celestial Ocean of Milk (Ksheerasagara). He is praised for his enchanting physical form, which possesses the captivating dark complexion of a rain-bearing cloud.
Anupallavi : The poet addresses the Lord as the deity of Ramamangalam (a famous temple in Kerala) and calls upon Janardhana (Shauri/Krishna). Dressed in brilliant yellow garments (Peetha Chela), the Lord is humbly pleaded with to protect and offer refuge to the devotee.
Charanam 1 : This verse highlights the Lord's divine attributes and early exploits. He is described as the royal swan swimming in the lotus minds of great yogis, worshipped even by Lord Shiva (Kaalakaala), and the cause of distress to the evil King Kamsa. He wears a peacock feather adorned in his beautiful hair, and he subdues both the venomous serpent Kaaliya and the cruel/tyrannical forces.
Charanam 2 : A vivid description of the Lord's beauty, mercy, and power. He possesses tender, elongated eyes shaped like lotus petals. With the tips of his sharp claws, he tore apart the lineage of demons (a reference to Narasimha Avatar). Adorned with bangles on his arms, he acts as a nectar-filled vessel of compassion that wipes away all sins and suffering.
Charanam 3 : A celebration of Lord Krishna's heroic childhood deeds (Leelas). It describes him engaging in playful pastimes as a young cowherd among the Gopis (cowherd maidens) of Vrindavan. He is praised for ripping open the beak of the wicked demon Bakaasura, and he is exalted as the young Narasimha who defeated even the staff of death (Kaala Danda).
