Summary : This classical invocation is a prayer dedicated to Goddess Saraswati (addressed as Vageeshwari and the Kalahamsi), the divine embodiment of learning, wisdom, and speech. The hymn envisions the Goddess as a graceful royal swan dwelling within the lotus-mouths of the creator Lord Brahma, extolling her radiant countenance and lotus-petal eyes that mirror fresh blossoms. Praising her luminous white effulgence that rivals pristine moonlight, the devotee earnestly supplicates the Mother to manifest directly upon their tongue and inspire poetic speech and wisdom. No specific earthly temple is mentioned in the verses of the hymn.
(Nalināsana mukha nalinangalil oru)
Upon the lotus-like faces (mukha nalinangal) of Lord Brahma (the one whose seat is a lotus—Nalinasana),
(Kali thēdidinā... kalahamsi jaya jaya)
O Divine Swan who delights in sportive play among those lotuses, Glory to You!
(Nalināyata dala nayanē jaya nava)
Victory to You whose eyes are like the petals of a freshly blossomed lotus!
(Nalina manōhara vadanē jaya jaya)
Glory to You, whose face is as beautiful as a lotus!
(Veluvele vilasina chandrikā thannōdu)
Radiant like pure, shining moonlight
(Olima kalarnnu vilangina dēvi)
O Goddess, resplendent with that luminous brilliance
(Thelivōdu vanniha mama nāvinmēl)
Come with clarity and grace upon my tongue
(Vilayādeeduka Vāgīśvari jaya)
O Vāgīśvarī (Goddess of Speech), play and dwell there! Glory to You!
