Summary : This devotional hymn is an earnest prayer of surrender dedicated to Lord Shiva, addressed as Neelakantha (the blue-throated one), Shambho, and Sarpahara (the one adorned with serpents), residing as the presiding Lord of the sacred Thrikkakkara / Thrikkalkkara shrine. Weaving intense personal repentance, the devotee strings bael-leaf garlands and pleads to spend life clasping the Lord's sacred feet to the heart. The hymn reflects the persistent agonies and unyielding bondages of worldly existence, beseeching the Lord to burn inner vices with His fiery third eye. It culminates in a daring prayer of ultimate devotion, pleading that the Lord transmute the devotee's mountain of sins into Kalakuta poison upon His divine throat so that human birth attains lasting liberation.
Pallavi : O blue-throated, blue-complexioned Lord, supreme sovereign ruler of Thrikkakkara (Thrikkalkkara), may I be blessed with the grace to adore and worship You alone each and every day.
Charanam-1 : Stringing sacred garlands of fresh bael leaves (vilwa-dala) and chanting Your divine names with continuous devotion, we, Your humble servants, earnestly plead and beg for Your boundless mercy.
Charanam-2 : Holding and tenderly embracing Your sacred lotus feet close against my heart, may You bestow Your kindness and compassion upon me, O supreme Lord, to spend all the days of my mortal lifetime in such contemplation.
Charanam-3 : My sorrows and agonizing grief keep mounting endlessly, and miseries show no sign of subsiding; indeed, my deep-rooted worldly attachments and bondages never sever, O Lord Shambho.
Charanam-4 : As I fervently plead for Your compassion and pray with intense devotion, please consume and burn away all impurities, sins, and vices dwelling within my heart using the blazing fire of Your third eye.
Charanam-5 : If You would only transform the entire multitude of my karmic sins into deadly poison (Kalakuta) and bear it upon Your throat, this human birth of mine shall attain its true spiritual fulfillment, O Lord adorned with serpent garlands!
