Summary : This devotional hymn is composed in ardent surrender to Goddess Bhagavathi (invoked as Ambika, Paapanaashini, Sri Shivaa, and Sri Shubhaa) in Her sacred manifestation at the Panai / Panayannarkavu shrine (addressed as Panayilamma). The verses portray Her mesmerizing, raincloud-complexioned form adorned with lotus garlands, holding the divine noose, sugarcane bow, and the peace-bestowing bowl, while bearing a necklace illuminated by moonbeams. The composition is a heartfelt plea for relief from earthly suffering and afflictions, seeking mental equanimity, protection from worldly partialities, and the steady grace to chant Her sacred names unceasingly.
Pallavi : At the sacred moment when a garland of fresh lotus blossoms is adorned upon Your divine form, which possesses the dark and radiant complexion of rain-laden clouds, and as Your gentle smile tenderly dries all tear-filled eyes, may our inner anguish and pains subside so that we may chant Your holy names forever.
Anupallavi : Glory to Mother Ambika, glory to Goddess Bhagavathi, please ward off and dispel all our miseries and sorrow; O Mother residing at Panai (Panayilamma), the purifier and destroyer of sins, Your auspicious divine boon is pure celestial sweetness.
Charanam-1 : Beholding Your divine countenance upon which hosts of celestial beings shower flowers and praises, the sacred noose (pasha) held in Your holy hands with power to bind the surging ocean waves, and Your benign hands gracefully bearing the sweet sugarcane bow, please ensure that our spiritual vision remains steadfast and never wanders astray from Your holy form, O auspicious Sri Shivaa!
Charanam-2 : Beholding the cool rays of the crescent moon sinking deeply into Your sacred necklace, Your compassionate gaze that extends and rekindles the flame of spiritual practice in devotees, and Your holy bowl/vessel that bestows ultimate protection and profound peace, please protect us from falling prey to bias, prejudice, and worldly duality, O all-auspicious Sri Shubhaa!
