Summary : This classical Sanskrit devotional kriti is dedicated to Lord Padmanabha (Lord Vishnu / Sri Ramachandra), the tutelary deity presiding over the revered Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram (historically referred to as Syananduresha). The song praises the Lord as the eternal protector of all the cosmos, who joyfully makes His sacred dwelling within the meditative lotus-hearts of enlightened sages. Addressing Him in His manifestation as Sri Ramachandra, the verses extol His moon-surpassing beauty, His ocean-like compassion, and His heroic destruction of wicked demons to establish righteousness. The composition serves as an earnest, humble prayer by the devotee for perpetual divine protection and shelter.
Pallavi : O Lord Padmanabha, protect me! You who possess the strength and majesty of the king of elephants (Gajendra's savior), who are draped in boundless noble virtues, O supreme scion of Shurasena (Shauri)!
Anupallavi : You who have made Your holy abode within the lotus-like hearts and minds of pure meditating sages, and who are ever delightfully absorbed in the preservation, sustenance, and protection of all the worlds!
Charanam-1 : Your radiant and lovely countenance surpasses the autumnal moon; Your compassionate eyes gleam richly with deep and boundless mercy; You annihilated the wicked lord of the demons (Ravana) in righteous, fierce fury; O Sri Ramachandra of immaculate, sanctifying deeds!
