Meaning
Summary :      This devotional hymn is an earnest supplication dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali (revered as Parameshwari, Bhairavi, and Chandika) presiding over the ancient and celebrated Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple (Kodungalloor Kaavu) in Thrissur, Kerala. The verses vividly portray the Goddess's awe-inspiring victory over the demon Darika, capturing Her fiery, radiant form adorned with weapons, elephant-ear ornaments, and crescent-moon fangs. Recounting Her heroic wrath alongside Her tender maternal love, the hymn celebrates Her as the sister of Vishnu and Indra, an unfailing guardian against calamities and poverty. It forms a deep prayer of complete surrender, pleading for Her compassionate glance to purge life's inner fears, eradicate worldly afflictions, and illuminate the devotee’s mind.

Pallavi : Protect me, O Supreme Goddess (Parameshwari) who resides in the sacred Kodungallur grove! O Divine Mother, radiant dispeller of the darkness of ignorance enveloping Your children, bestow Your compassionate sidelong glance upon me.

Charanam-1 : May the sacred lotus feet of Goddess Bhairavi—who stood in tranquil bliss after swiftly decapitating the arrogant, ferocious warrior Darika—ever manifest without cessation in my inner heart. Through Your grace, may all my noble desires be fulfilled, let all overpowering dread and fear within my heart be dissolved, and may I experience supreme peace and spiritual joy, O Mother, abode of peerless virtues!

Charanam-2 : Resplendent with the shining sword flashing in Your lotus-like hand, Your waist majestically draped with noble elephant hide, and Your divine form blazing with the brilliance of sacred embers, may You shine brightly like a sacred flame in the midst of this assembly and inside this holy temple grove; completely ward off all looming perils, disasters, and pairs of adversities, and protect us, O Mother adorned with golden pitcher-like bosom!

Charanam-3 : Adorned with earrings bearing the motif of the noble elephant, vanquisher of worldly bonds and inner afflictions, divine sister of the Lord of Celestials (Indra) and Lord Vishnu, fierce vanquisher of demonic foes, O Chandika of indomitable valor and supreme protectress of the meek! I fold my hands in adoration before You, who have lotus-like eyes, gentle speech, and are adorned with the serpent king, begging You to swiftly rescue me from the agony of poverty, O Goddess with gleaming fangs curved like the crescent moon!

Samarppanam : O Bhairavi, Anandabhairavi, auspicious Mother Bhadrakali, I fold my hands and bow before You in humble adoration!
