Summary : This devotional hymn is an earnest adoration and prayer of surrender dedicated to Goddess Parvati / Durga (invoked as Parvatha Nandini, Amba, and Kesari Vahana). The hymn celebrates Her effulgent beauty—possessing a countenance glowing like the full autumn moon and large eyes resembling tender lotus petals—as She presides peacefully along riverbanks mounted upon Her majestic lion. Depicting Her heroic cosmic role as the fierce vanquisher who tore through the demonic hordes of Diti (Ditijaali vidaarane), the verses recall Her emergence from the sacred fire of Lord Shiva’s third eye to receive the humble prostrations of Indra and the celestials. Possessing a graceful, slow gait that rivals the majesty of a noble tusker and speaking words overflowing with sweet nectar, the Divine Mother is praised as the ultimate wellspring of sublime virtues and the supreme shelter for all seeking maternal protection.
Shlokam : Salutations unto You, O Divine Mother Narayani, who is the auspiciousness in all that is auspicious, the consort of Shiva, the fulfiller of all spiritual and worldly aspirations, the ultimate refuge, three-eyed Gauri! O Mother Narayani, Goddess Narayani, Lakshmi Narayani, auspicious Bhadra Narayani, salutations unto You!
Pallavi : Protect me, O daughter of the sacred mountain (Himavan), protect me! O Mother whose countenance is radiant and enchanting like the full autumn moon, O Amba, daughter of the mountain, protect me!
Anupallavi : O Divine Mother who resides gracefully along the sacred riverbanks, who rides mounted upon the noble lion (Kesari), and who tears apart and destroys the demonic legions born of Diti; protect me!
Charanam-1 : O Goddess before whom Indra (the adversary of Jambha) and the foremost celestials bow down in reverence; who bows gracefully with Her prominent, pitcher-like bosom; who emerged from the fiery third eye upon the forehead of the supreme Lord Shambhu; O eternal dwelling and embodiment of boundless exalted virtues!
Charanam-2 : O Mother whose captivating eyes resemble the delicate petals of a fresh blooming lotus, whose sweet speech is exceedingly delightful like pure nectar, and whose gentle, slow-stepping gait shatters and surpasses the majestic stride of an elephant in rut; protect me!
