Summary : This gentle lullaby (Thaarattu) is an intimate expression of Vatsalya Bhava (parental affection) dedicated to Lord Krishna (invoked tenderly as Kanna, Unni Balan, and Manikkuttan) in His infant pastoral form. Visualized through the loving eyes of Mother Yashoda, the song portrays the young cowherd boy who guards all creation being tenderly coaxed to rest after tending to the calves. Adorned with pearl necklaces, an auspicious waist-chain, and a miniature silk cloth, the divine child is celebrated as the greatest treasure of the earth and a feast for the eyes. The composition reflects the traditional folklore lullabies sung across Kerala homes to put baby Krishna to sleep.
Charanam-1 : Is He not merely an innocent child? Gently wipe and attend to all those cows without pinching or causing them pain; this little boy who safeguards and preserves all living beings must now go to sleep, or else sleep will evade Him!
Charanam-2 : Is He not His mother's precious, beloved darling? Is He not the priceless treasure buried within this earth? Treat and delight your eyes with this auspicious sight, for the innocent baby boy must now rest and sleep!
Charanam-2 : With garlands of lustrous pearls adorning His chest, radiating the tender charm of a tiny golden waist chain, and wearing a delicate silk loincloth (pattu konakam)... O Kanna, dressed in that fine silk attire, the tender young child must go to sleep; sleep tenderly, go to sleep...
