Summary :      This classical devotional hymn is an earnest adoration and prayer of surrender dedicated to Goddess Parvati (revered as Giritanaya, Mahishasuramardini, and Maya) in Her sacred manifestation as Goddess Meenakshi (Mathura Nathe). The composition praises the Divine Mother as the daughter born of King Malayadhwaja Pandya, the lotus-eyed sovereign empress reigning over the historic sacred city and temple shrine of Madurai (Meenakshi Amman Temple). Extolling Her celestial lotus feet which are continually venerated by sages and celestial beings, the hymn celebrates Her as a boundless, all-fulfilling ocean of maternal compassion. The verses form a heartfelt plea beseeching the divine protectress to safeguard, preserve, and shelter the humble devotee from all worldly distress.

Anupallavi : O Mother Mahamaya, fierce vanquisher and slayer of the demon Mahishasura, who embodies deep divine compassion and the sacred auspicious energy of Lord Shiva; protect me!

Charanam-1 : Incarnated as the miraculous, uncreated daughter of King Malayadhwaja Pandya, O enchantress with eyes charming like the blue lotus, supreme Queen and presiding Sovereign of sacred Madurai; protect me!

Charanam-2 : Whose sacred lotus feet are reverently served and worshipped by assemblies of devas and venerable sages, who is adored by virtuous and noble souls, O vast and complete ocean of boundless mercy and fulfillment; protect me!
