Meaning
Summary :        This devotional composition is an earnest prayer of surrender dedicated to Lord Shiva (invoked as Vishwanatha, Parvatheesha, Tripurantaka, and the dancer of the cosmic Tandava). The hymn begins with the classical Kashi Vishwanatha Dhyana Shlokam celebrating the Lord crowned with the flowing Ganga, accompanied by Goddess Gauri, and presiding as the ruler of Varanasi (Kashi). The song then extols His destruction of Kamadeva and Tripura, His compassionate dispelling of the darkness of delusion for meditating sages, and His boons granted to the Pandava prince Bhima. Furthermore, the verses specifically venerate the Lord as the eternal dancer residing at Pundarikapura (the sacred Chidambaram Nataraja shrine), beseeching the moon-faced, serpent-adorned protector of all worlds for continuous grace, liberation, and shelter.

Shlokam : Adorned with the mass of matted hair rendered enchanting by the waves of the celestial river Ganga, His left half eternally graced and beautified by Goddess Gauri; dear to Lord Narayana, the destroyer of the pride of Kamadeva (Ananga)—worship and adore Lord Vishwanatha, the supreme sovereign ruler of the sacred city of Varanasi!

Pallavi : Protect and sustain me, O Lord of Parvati, O deity of pristine and holy renown! Protector and preserver of all the worlds, You who are brilliantly adorned with luminous serpents as divine ornaments!

Charanam-1 : O consumer of Kamadeva in fiery flames, destroyer of worldly grief and existential sorrow, ocean and treasure trove of exalted divine virtues! You who enchant and captivate the joyful minds of assemblies of meditating sages; whose holy, auspicious feet rise like the dawn sun to dispel the dense darkness and heavy burden of delusion!

Charanam-2 : Adorned with exquisitely beautiful, gem-inlaid divine ornaments, O Supreme Lord of venerable and noble disposition! With eyes graceful like lotus petals, radiant as the golden cosmic mountain (Meru), and endowed with an effulgent, handsome countenance!

Charanam-3 : O dweller of the sacred city of Pundarikapura (Chidambaram), destroyer of the three flying citadels of the demons (Tripurantaka), possessing a divine face radiant as the full moon! Accompanied by the king of serpents as You perform the graceful and sublime cosmic dance (Tandava), O Lord who bestowed valor and cherished boons upon Bhima among the Pandavas, please protect and preserve me!
