Meaning
Summary :       This devotional hymn is an elaborate keshadipada (head-to-toe) contemplation and prayer of surrender dedicated to Lord Shiva (invoked as Paramesha, Puravairi, and Marari) in close union with Goddess Parvati. The composition reverently visualizes the Lord's form from His chiming ankle-bells, tender footsteps, elephant pelt, and broad serpent-adorned chest to His poison-darkened blue throat encircled by Vasuki, His radiant countenance, third eye, and crescent-crowned matted hair bearing the river Ganga. Pleading for the eradication of worldly miseries (bhava dukha) and accumulated sins, the devotee surrenders completely at the lotus feet of Shiva Shambho for perpetual solace and spiritual liberation.

Charanam-1 : Protect me, O Paramesha, O Maheshwara, foe of Tripura! O slayer of Kamadeva (Marari), who abides lovingly united with the supreme Goddess Parvati (Shivaa).

Charanam-2 : I bow before Your briskly stepping, tender sprout-like feet; I bow before the anklets chiming melodiously upon both Your holy feet.

Charanam-3 : I bow before the shapely form and divine luster of Your holy thighs; I bow before the elephant hide (kalabhathol) that girds and covers Your waist.

Charanam-4 : I bow before Your holy abdomen marked with the deep spiral whorl of the navel; I bow before Your broad, effulgent chest that shines with splendor.

Charanam-5 : I bow before the sacred thread (upaveetham) shining across Your broad chest; I bow before Your holy chest upon which the noble serpents glide.

Charanam-6 : I swiftly bow before Vasuki, the fierce sovereign king of serpents, who resides gracefully around Your sacred neck.

Charanam-7 : I bow before Your holy throat that gleams with a deep, dark blue luster; I bow before the garland of skulls (mundakamala) adorning Your neck.

Charanam-8 : I bow before the rings and hoops swaying through Your pierced holy ears; I bow before Your lotus countenance whose divine glow eclipses the brilliance of the sun.

Charanam-9 : I bow before Your eyebrows bearing the deep black luster of honeybees; O Mrida (merciful Lord), I bow before Your twin eyes brimming with tender compassion.

Charanam-10 : I bow before the third eye upon Your forehead that conceals the embers of cosmic fire; I bow before the gentle deer that graces Your holy hand.

Charanam-11 : I bow before the resonant damaru drum resting in one hand; gazing upon the trident (shoola) in the other, I bow before that peerless, faultless form.

Charanam-12 : I bow before Your matted hair (kapardam) tinged with the reddish hue of dawn; I bow before the crescent moon (somakala) beheld nestled within Your matted hair.

Charanam-13 : I bow before the sacred matted locks where the pristine river Goddess Jahnavi (Ganga) dwells; I bow before Your abundant grace that cleanses and dispels every sin.

Charanam-14 : O Lord who bears the crescent moon upon His crest, O Shashidhara, I bow to You; O embodiment of Shiva, Your sacred feet are my eternal refuge.

Charanam-15 : To dispel the afflictions and agonies of worldly existence, I take refuge in the Lord; O Supreme Soul, Shiva Shambho, I continuously worship Your sacred feet.

Charanam-16 : O Supreme Soul, Shiva Shambho, I worship and adore Your sacred feet; Your sacred feet alone, O Shiva Shambho, Your sacred feet alone!
