Meaning
Summary :      This devotional hymn is an elaborate keshadipada (head-to-toe) meditation and prayer of surrender dedicated to Lord Ayyappa / Dharma Sastha (revered as Hariharasuthan and Kaliyuga Varadan) presiding over the ancient and celebrated Arattupuzha Sree Sastha Temple in Thrissur, Kerala. The verses reverently depict the Lord’s divine form—from His peacock-feather-adorned golden crown, forehead tilak, bow-shaped brows, and blooming-lotus eyes, down to His bow and arrows, royal blue silk garments, sword, anklets, and cosmic temple dance. Venerating Him as the supreme guardian of the universe and the ultimate inner reality of all living beings, the hymn serves as an earnest supplication to dispel the hardships and afflictions of the Kali age, concluding with the sacred Bhoothanatha Sadananda surrender prayer.

Charanam-1 : I bow down before the resplendent golden crown adorned with a peacock feather; I bow before the golden crown graced with an iridescent peacock feather, the sacred head that grants complete fearlessness and sanctuary; I join my palms in devotion before the auspicious, shining tilak upon Your forehead; I bow before Your fine eyebrows that surpass the beauty of a bow; I bow before Your lovely eyes resembling fresh lotus petals; Lord Ayyappa, I surrender unto You!

Charanam-2 : I bow before Your sacred nose resembling the delicate sesame (ellin) blossom; I bow before Your tender lips that match the deep crimson of the bandhooka flower; I bow before Your sacred teeth resembling rows of gleaming white pearls; I join my hands and bow before Your enchanting smile that outshines the radiance of white moonlight; I bow before Lord Dharma Sastha who gracefully abides and presides at Arattupuzha!

Charanam-3 : I bow before Your noble, broad chest and sacred abdomen; I bow before Your divine holy hands wielding the sacred bow and arrow; I bow before the blue silk lower garments and the radiant golden waist-chain; I bow before Your royal waist encircled with the sacred sword and decorative tassels; Lord Ayyappa, I surrender unto You!

Charanam-4 : I bow down before Your holy ankles that resemble fragrant screw-pine (ketaki) blossoms; I bow with folded palms before the delicate beauty of Your holy toes; I bow before the sweet chime of anklets perfectly keeping time with the rhythm; I bow before Your divine, majestic dance gleaming with the temple percussion beats; Lord Ayyappa, I surrender unto You!

Charanam-5 : I bow before the sacred divine form worshipped and revered across the earthly realm; I bow before the sacred lotus feet worshipped throughout all three worlds; singing hymns of praise from head to toe (keshadipadantham), I join my palms in worship; I bow down in total surrender before the divine son of Hari and Hara!

Charanam-6 : I bow from head to foot before Your immaculate, flawless divine form; I bow before Lord Ayyappa who is the supreme truth and eternal essence of all beings; I bow down so that the trials, sins, and tribulations of the Kali age may be cleared away; offering hymns of adoration, I bow before the supreme bestower of boons in the Kali Yuga; I bow before Lord Sastha who resides in sacred Arattupuzha preserving and safeguarding this visible cosmos; I bow before Lord Dharma Sastha presiding over Arattupuzha!

Samarppanam : O Lord of the Bhootas (Bhoothanatha), eternal embodiment of absolute bliss, overflowing with boundless compassion toward all living beings! Protect, O protect me, mighty-armed Lord; salutations, countless salutations unto You, O Dharma Sastha! O Lord, Lord Ayyappa!
