Summary : This classical devotional kriti is composed in profound adoration of Lord Poornathrayeesha (the supreme manifestation of Lord Mahavishnu / Santhana Gopalamoorthy), the tutelary presiding deity of the historic Lord Poornathrayeesha of Thripunithura. Addressing the deity as the protector of the Cochin royal sovereigns (Madabhupa) and the dispenser of worthy progeny to faithful devotees, the composition recounts the Bhagavatha legend of the Santhana Gopala episode, where Lord Krishna humbled Arjuna's pride by restoring the deceased children of the grief-stricken Brahmin. Praising the Lord seated upon Ananta as an ocean of compassion, the hymn reflects the devotee's plea to be safely ferried across the perilous ocean of worldly existence (samsara sagaram).
Shlokam : I bow to Lord Vishnu, the serene embodiment of peace, reclining upon the serpent bed, from whose navel springs the cosmic lotus, the sovereign Lord of the celestials, the foundation of the universe, boundless like the sky, dark-hued like rainclouds, possessed of auspicious limbs, the beloved of Goddess Lakshmi, lotus-eyed, attainable through meditation by enlightened yogis, the dispeller of the fear of worldly existence, and the singular Lord of all the worlds!
Pallavi : O friend and protector, Lord Poornathrayeesha, protect me! O vast ocean of compassionate virtues!
Anupallavi : Plunged deeply into this terrifying ocean of worldly existence (samsara) and desperately searching for the distant shore, please protect and deliver me, O Lord!
Charanam-1 : O Lord seated upon the eternal serpent Ananta, O Krishna! O beloved of all humanity, slayer of Kamsa! To those who constantly contemplate and chant Your sacred names within their minds, You bestow the blessing of children and progeny day after day.
Charanam-2 : O protector of the Cochin rulers (Madabhupa), O Krishna, punisher of tens of millions of demons! When the withered-faced, weeping Brahmin rushed seeking refuge, You subdued the boastful arrogance and diminished the vanity of Arjuna (Partha).
Charanam-3 : O Lord with an enchanting and lovely countenance, O Krishna, embodiment of the sacred, serene Omkara! You who gathered and lovingly restored the Brahmin's sons into his hands; O treasure-house of boundless compassion revered and bowed to by Venkitadasa!
