Meaning
Summary :      This devotional composition captures the poignant departure and prayer of Kuchela (Sudama) taking leave of his beloved childhood companion and supreme Lord, Lord Krishna. Overwhelmed by divine grace, the impoverished Brahmin expresses profound wonder at how he—the poorest of mendicants—has been elevated to the foremost among the fulfilled, having been welcomed into Krishna's towering palace and treated with boundless honor. As he prepares to return home to his awaiting wife and starving children, he seeks neither earthly riches nor personal aggrandizement, praying solely for unflinching, supreme devotion (alpetarayam bhakti) at Krishna's lotus feet until life's end, and yearning for the blessing to behold the Lord once again. While reflecting the immortal Bhagavata narrative popularized in the Kathakali and Sopanam classical repertoires of Kerala (such as Kuchelavrittam),

Charanam-1 : O lotus-eyed Lord, solely on account of Your boundless grace and compassion, I stand today as the foremost and most blessed among all those who have attained the supreme fulfillment of life.

Charanam-2 : When I reflect upon how You elevated this utterly penniless, destitute Brahmin into Your lofty, magnificent palace and honored me with such royal hospitality, how can I ever describe the greatness of my immense fortune?

Charanam-3 : Until the moment this soul unites with Your sacred feet, O Krishna, O immeasurable Supreme Lord, grant me steadfast, immense, and unswerving devotion to You; now, I take leave to journey back to my humble dwelling.

Charanam-4 : Without delay, my wife anxiously awaits my return, O Lord Hari, and my young children dwell in earnest longing; may I be blessed to behold Your divine vision once again!
